Point
St. George Lighthouse
Harbor
District Building, Crescent City
Available as a design in our online garment shop
For
a lighthouse keeper, one of the least sought-after assignments
on the West Coast was Point St. George Lighthouse. The lighthouse
was completed in 1892 after 9 years and $700,000 of construction.
It sits on the open reefs about 9 miles Northwest of Crescent
City and is constantly buffetted by winds and waves.
This
mural, depicting the Point St. George lighthouse, can be
seen in the Harbor District building in Crescent City. It
was built by resident artist Harley Munger with help from
youth serving community service hours. Funding was from
the Del Norte County Department of Mental Heath.
The
mural stands 7 feet by 8 feet.
